The Vice President of the division at Hewlett-Packard (HP), which deals with printers, PCs and notebooks, Erik Lalijo visited Comtrade for talks with company executives on further enhancing mutual business.

On that occasion we were able to talk with Mr. Lalier who told us what we can expect in the near future when it comes to technology, what the division of HP in two parts means for the company, and why they stand out from the competition.

Otherwise, Hewlett-Packard, better known as HP, is one of the largest and strongest IT companies in the world. It was founded in 1939 in Palo Alto in California, and from the very beginning allocated to its innovative solutions, but also quality.

Today, HP is best known for its notebook computers, tablets, printers, and servers and desktop computers.

The renowned company has been in our country for more than 20 years, has an official representation that employs local experts, and has been cooperating with Comtrade, the largest IT company in South East Europe.

What is the reason for your visit to the Comtrade company and Serbia?

I came to Serbia to visit Comtrade because the company is one of our most important partners. He have had very good cooperation for many years, as shown by the fact that Comtrade is one of our oldest partners in the EMEA region (Europe, Middle East and Africa).

HP and Comtrade have been cooperating for 20 years, so it is very important to regularly visit your country so we can achieve much more together.

Veselin Jevrosimović in the German "Der Spiegel": This is what the owner of Comtrade said to foreign investors!

In which fields do you cooperate with ComTrade?

We have been collaborating for many years, both in the field of distribution of HP products in the region and in the field of IT software solutions and their sales to large customers.

There was news that HP is set to split into two companies. What can you tell us about this division?

This is true, we announced the division of HP into two companies. This change will happen on November 1st of this year. The first company will retain the name of HP and will be in charge of the PC and printing devices, while the other will be called Hewlett Packard Enterprise and will focus on servers, storage devices, networks, software and other enterprise services.

The two companies will be completely separate and will not depend on one another, which will allow us to further refine our products.

How satisfied are you with the abundance of companies that HP has in the Balkans?

I am never satisfied with the market-share (laughs), but the share we have in Serbia is really great. If we consider the printing market, HP in Serbia is constantly occupying the largest market share, which is really good.

On the other hand, if we look at the share of the PC market, HP is continuously a high market leader in the field of business computers. It is a good position, but I think we can do even better.

How do you see the computer market in five to ten years, what will change?

That's a really good question. Today we have a good combination of devices. We started from the classic desktop computer, then followed by the laptop, notebook of small dimensions, tablets and in the end, smart phones.

I think that the selection of devices is based on the use and needs of different users. Today everyone uses several, if not all of these devices. We as a manufacturer have to have a complete portfolio for each type of user, but also understand with time what the next generation will bring for our consumers.

I assume that in the coming years, the trend of multiple devices (tablets, notebooks, smartphones ...) will continue.

Do you think that classical computers and laptops will soon become history?

I think they will continue to exist, but with many improvements. For example, today we have a very light and thin notebook, something that until a few years ago was unthinkable.

On the other hand, when it comes to classical computers, we recently introduced a new generation called "Blended Reality". It is a product called "Sprout" which has no classical keyboard, but instead uses a projector that will project a virtual keyboard surface. A large number of these and similar examples can be expected in the future.

Does the HP company plan to start producing smartphones?

For now we do not plan to develop these devices.

Microsoft will help Serbia improve governance efficiency

What sets HP apart from other companies?

Simply put, the largest portfolio of products, ranging from classic ink-jet and laser printers, to those who, in addition to multifunctional paper can print on other materials. When it comes to computers, HP offers a variety of models, from the classic PC computers to notebooks and tablets.

Of course, there is the quality of our devices that we've demonstrated during all the years of our existence.

At the very end we asked Mr. Lalier, who is originally from France, whether he likes our country and what works best. He has said he was delighted with home-made food and wine, as well as Belgrade and our mentality.
