The worst prisons of Balkans: Chaos in Idrizovo and reduced sentences, they rape snitches in Zenica, "Glina" threatens with "rubber rooms", and in Spuz - with fists (VIDEO)

Whoever has the money, has everything. Drugs are more frequent than bread, and who doesn't respect the hierarchy - the rape is coming

The Macedonian Parliament adopted a new amnesty law to disperse prisons in which there is an indescribable crowd. Under the new Law, all those sentenced to prison terms of up to 6 months, 670 of them, will be exempted in order to expand the capacity of free beds for those with more severe penalties. However, the situation is bad in these prisons, many of them are notorious for other reasons.

Prime Minister Zoran Zaev has recently visited the most famous Macedonian prison Idrizovo, saying that he is ashamed of the inhuman conditions in it.

There are bad conditions in Idrizovo but which prisons on Balkans are unmatched when it comes to fights, penalties among prisoners, the distribution of drugs and many others unwritten "rules of conduct"?

Zenica first by far

Nele Karajlic sang about famous correction facility in the song "Zenica blues" in 1984.

People serving their sentences here are murderers, rapists, dealers and other criminals and they have their own hierarchy and some other rules.

Although the conditions in prisons are not anything like other ones in the region (prisoners have a cinema, pavilion, sports hall, classrooms...), escaping Zenica is not possible - the last escape was recorded 15 years ago.

There are 200 prisoners in the prison surrounded by barbed wire and tall walls. The police officers are at the same time guards, teachers, doctors, even the shoulder to cry on. The worst in "Correctional facility Zenica" is harassment among prisoners. Betrayal is not forgiven and it is punished with rape.

Fights and schemes are constant, and there are around 3.000 unpleasant scenes during the year. The guards say that mostly new or weaker convicts have it the worst because they are "caught in the machine" by "capitalists", or people who have sentences longer than 20 years.

Drugs are the major problem. It is twice as expensive as on the streets. A wife of a convict tried to smuggle 33 grams of heroin in her vagina. They pay for sex in telephone cards, and homosexuality is widely spread.

The pride of Glina - "rubber" rooms

The worst felons among the prisoners of this Croatian prison are taken to "rubber rooms". They are "served" with a sudden change in air temperature and other "methods" of frightening, and when he gets out, if someone tries to protect him, he can expect to be raped.

Snitching is not forgiven here and suicides are getting more frequent in Glina.

It is difficult to escape from Glina and those with many years of service do not even think about it because they enjoy all the privileges.

Fights are the middle name of Spruz

The most famous prison in Montenegro is certainly Spuz. There are members of different clans in it, so the fights are an everyday occurrence, literally.

It was recorded at the beginning of 2016 that the prisoner Jovan Jovanovic poured hot oil at the face and body of Igor Bozovic.

- The fact that Jovanovic received a bucket with hot oil points to the corruption among the guards, reported by the Montenegrin media at the time.

Guards also participate in massive fights - six of them ended up at the Emergency center when the prisoners of pavilion B have beaten them up with bars.

There are more drugs than in the streets, and the sound that can be heard during the night is - moaning, the guards said.

Idrizovo - Almost everybody is using drugs, and on a female ward - hell

The greatest Macedonian prison Idrizovo in Skopje became a one of a kind bastion of drugs and a nest for drug addiction. More than half of the people are using drugs from the people who serve their sentences since 1966, and 221 are on therapy. It is easier to acquire drugs in prison and its cheaper than on the outside.

Who has the money in prison, it's almost as if he can live outside. The money is tailoring people's destinies - if you don't have it, then you have nothing, and if you have a deeper pocket, you can always get to cigarettes, mobile phone, best bed or free weekend.

Out of 2.000 prisoners, more than 1.000 are using drugs regularly and the situation in woman's ward is even more difficult.

Those who overdose will have a bad time because they won't receive help. Since there are more and more of Macedonian Albanians in prison, most of the fights are actually between them and Macedonians.
