The American from California, Ron Holsey, fell in long with Serbia and our music a long time ago when he was on a trip. He just needed one song and one voice to realize that. "Kraljice moga srca", by Saban Saulic, it connected him with our folklore for all times and the legendary singer who died in a terrible car crash after the performance in Germany.

Holsey, who posts the versions of the folk hits on his YT channel, has been gathering money in the US for Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina during the terrible floods that occurred. He always sang Saban's songs, and thanks to him, he "understood" Serbian music.

He posted the last farewell on his Facebook page:

"I remember the winter of 2011. I was in a smoky basement bar in Belgrade and my friend Denke told me that if I really wanted to learn to sing Serbian music, I should listen to Šabana Šaulić. I’d never heard of Šabana Šaulić before, but Denke wrote the name down on a napkin. I folded it and put it in my pocket. The next day, I went on YouTube and discovered “Kraljice Srca Mog.” I listened to it and was immediately captivated. I’d never heard anything like it. That voice: the soaring vocals, the spectacular ornaments. I listened over and over and over again.

How was it possible for anyone to sing like that? How was it possible that the rest of the world didn’t know who Šabana Šaulić was? I’ve spent the last several years trying to figure out the answers to those questions. As far as how someone can sing like that, I don’t think I’ll ever know. What I do know is that I will be forever grateful for the golden voice that touched so many people and for the love of Balkan music that it helped to inspire in me. Šabana Šaulić was a true original in every sense and there will never be another like him. May he rest in peace."
