Ovations, torches and song! Tens of thousands of people welcomed Serbian Olympians (PHOTO) (VIDEO)
The reception was prepared in front of the Serbian Parliament so all medalists could stand on a makeshift stage
Despite the bad weather, rain and cold, several thousand people came to the front of the National Assembly to welcome the Serbian Olympic teams who have returned with eight medals from the Olympic Games in Rio.

This is how they celebrated the VICTORY OF SERBIAN WATER POLO TEAM on Kosovo!
Even though they arrived in stages during the last few days, first Davor Stefanek, then Ivana Spanovic, on Tuesday, two last groups of Olympians arrived, with Tijana Bogdanovic, Milica Mandic, kayak team, and after them basketball players, water polo team, female volleyball team and female basketball team.
This is a record reception for Serbian champions because never have this much people been welcomed at the same time. Tens of thousands of people came to greet the Serbian Olympic teams and to celebrate winning medals.
First, athletes who participated at the Games but failed to win a medal came out on stage : shooters: Ivana Maksimovic, Andrea Arsovic, Damir Mikec, Milenko Sebic, Stevan Pletikosic, Bobana Velickovic, and then athletes Mihail Dudas, Amela Terzic, Andrelko Risticevic, and so on...
First of medalists came out onstage were female basketball players, and when the announcer read their names masses was in a trance.
- Beloved Serbia, beloved people, you were our inspiration on all those games. Long live Serbia - said Marina Maljkovic.
Milica Dabovic thanked for the support during the competition, and then the girls started singing "Heroes, go to battle".
After them, it was the turn for the taekwondo, Milica Mandic and Tijana Bogdanovic. She was greeted with the crowd roaring "Tijana, Tijana".
While the athletes sang the national anthem, Milica Mandic went down among the fans and watched the atmosphere.
- Good evening Serbia. Thank you for everything and for the support during the Games.
- This is an incredible feeling and i can't control my emotions. Thank you for staying up late to watch my matches - said Tijana Bogdanovic.
Kayak team went on the stage lead by the silver double Zoric and Tomicevic.
- This is what i have been imagining forever. I dreamed the reception and thank you for your support - said Zoric.
Female volleyball team went again on the stage and greeted the fans, and after them the basketball players which received the most ovations from the crowd.
- Let me make it short, 20 years ago i was here in their shoes. Now when i am in front of them and i am proud to have these champions around me. Great thanks to the elite of Serbian sport who play for the Serbia - said Sasa Djordjevic, the Serbian selector.
Serbian Olympians started dancing on the stage with the song "Dance and win" and after that they sung together the anthem "Boze pravde".
First gold was brought to us by wrestler Davor Stefanek and he was the first to come to the stage from gold medal winners. And after them the water polo team that finally won their gold.
- Good evening Belgrade. I was here in 2014 with basketball players when i was the world champion. I said than I'll see you after Rio, and i fulfilled that promise. Congratulations to all medal winners - said Stefanek.
When the water polo team went out, the crowd sand "Now you took your gold Dejan" alluding on the selector Dejan Savic.
Captain Zivko Gocic spoke in front of the team.
- Thank you a lot, be proud of these athletes, of this team, just as proud i am - said the water polo team captain Zivko Gocic.
After the presentation, the party started on the stage, and all Olympians danced with the song "Dance and win". After that they all sung the anthem "Boze pravde".
