DANGEROUS CHASE IN SRBOBRAN: Police are looking for jaguar and monkey, which were hidden somewhere in the city!

Members of the inspections continue to search for jaguar and the macaque monkey, which were transferred illegally to an unknown location before the inspection supervision by the owner, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection.

Two brown bears, one of them which is a is a hybrid of brown and polar bears, were examined after being tranquilized and prepared for transport, and they noted physical damage to the bodies of animals and behavioral disorders due to inadequate keeping in captivity.

They were vaccinated, chipped and necessary samples were taken, and they are temporarily placed in Zoo Palic and the Zoo of city of Belgrade.

They will be there up to the completion of the procedures for their permanent care within specialized shelters for bears in Germany and Bulgaria with the support of non-governmental organizations Four Paws (Vier Pfoten).

These types of bears are protected by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). Serbia is a signatory of the Convention since 2001, the ministry said, while the brown bear enjoys the status of strictly protected species according to national regulations.

As reported, the three bears were seized on Monday, 31 October in Srbobran by Inspection of Environmental Protection Provincial Secretariat for Urban Planning and Environmental Protection, and the seizure and disposal of wildlife was carried out in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection.

Veterinarians and biologists from the Zoo Palic zoo and the city of Belgrade were engaged, as well as a specialized team for bears from NGOs Four Paws (Vier Pfoten), who cooperate with the Ministry for several years.
