Serbian ambassador visited all arrested people: They treat them in accordance to the law

Serbian citizens who are in custody on Zakynthos, under suspicion that they participated in the murder of the American, will have all the rights that are belonging to them.

This was stated by Serbian Ambassador in Athens Dusan Spasojevic for Tanjug, adding that he received such assurances in conversation with the governor and commander of police of the Ionian islands.

- Our arrested citizens were immediately visited by our honorary consul Viktor Ruhotas, and i visited the arrested with Ruhotas and consul in Athens Milan Vukosavljevic. We talked with parents and lawyers, and the governor of Ionian islands and the general of police on all Ionian islands, and they assured us that our citizens will have the rights they are entitled to - said Spasojevic in the phone statement for Tanjug.

According to him, seven Serbian citizens are being held in custody, and they will be taken to investigation judge in the next 24 hours, and they will give statements in the presence of lawyers, about the tragic case that happened at the end of last week.

- What is important is that the Greek authorities have treated our citizens according to the law, in the police custody and they can be visited by their parents. The role of the state of Serbia, the embassy and our two consuls who directly follow this case, is to ensure that they have all their rights in accordance with the law and best possible practice - said Spasojevic.

Asked to comment on media reports that another video appeared of the incident, Spasojevic said that all these things are "in the jurisdiction of the authorities".

- All of this is in the jurisdiction of the Greek judicial authorities, and i, as an ambassador, would not interfere, but i am confident that the citizens of Serbia who are currently in custody will have all of their rights guaranteed - said Spasojevic.

Ambassador recalled that the initiative was started in the conversations between two governments and two ministries of internal affairs to ensure that during tourist season, Serbian police is present on critical places in Greece, which are visited by large number of Serbian tourists.
