If you find yourself in Banat, and if you like mystery and adventure, make sure to visit the castle Kapetanovo near Stari Lec.

Cursed Adriatic island claimed another victim: Mysterious deaths occurred there, and another tragedy happened yesterday

According to the tradition, the castle was erected by the ruler Bela Botka. They say he loved his wife and gambling. Because of his love for the gambling, he lost his wife. More precisely, in 1938, Beka lost his castle, after which his wife Ema, on August 2, climbed to the highest tower, poured gasoline on her and set herself on fire. They say that not even the ashes remained, only a piece of her blue hair which flew around the castle like a wedding dress of death.

According to the legend, every August 2nd, at the night of Saint Ilija, a ghost of a woman with long blond hair walks in the chambers. The Coat of Arms of family Botka on the eastern gates (lion with a crown, holding a star in his paw) begins to shine and roars can be heard. Locals say that those are just thunders.

It is nice to visit the castle because it is one of the few castles in Vojvodina which was renovated and whose architecture was preserved. The castle is a monument of culture of great significance, owned by Mrs. Radmila Jovanovic.

The magnificent medieval castle was built by the mayor Botka Bela in 1904,  and it got its name after the latest prewar owner, Milan Kapetanov. After the World War II, with the law about nationalization, his castle was taken away from him. It was privatized many years ago and the owner wants to open a hotel and restaurant for people who desire hunting tourism.

The legend about the castle Kapetanovo

When in 1938 the owner of the castle Botka Bela went bankrupt, he didn't even think that his wife could set herself on fire. They say that not even the ashes remained, only a piece of her blue hair which flew around the castle like a wedding dress of death. On that August 1938, the stars were shining in the sky reminding of the sad fireworks. The legend says that a shadow of a woman appears every August 2nd in one of the rooms of the castle, with the long blond hair, looking at the Banat plains. And today, when people are cutting the grass around the castle, hey can still find some patches of blond hair on their rakes.
