The plan is to build a 1.500 meters long promenade, ports with 700 new connections - 400 communal and 300 commercial - then a large Olympic camp and the future center of Croatian sailing as well as a number of other marine contents.

Among other things, the aquarium of 10,000 square meters, which according to that criterion would be among the largest in Europe, in the ranking of the one in Copenhagen, Croatian Tportal reports.

The Split-Dalmatia County Assembly declared the area between Duilovo and Stobrec zones a "port of county importance", ie it defined the area in which the investment will take place.

The approval of six different ministries and government is expected in the coming months, followed by the preparation of various studies and planning documents, as well as the implementation of the competition. It will last a total of two and a half years, as it is estimated.

According to Tportal, the project will not be offered to investors or potential concessionaires, but its sole holder will be the Port Authority of the Split-Dalmatia County. This also denied speculation in Croatia that Znjan has been "cleaned" these days to free the space for foreign investors.

The area between Duilovo and Stobreca is abandoned and largely inaccessible. In spatial plans, its coastal area is defined as a green zone due to the configuration of the terrain and the natural steep reef that should remain as such, because all the content will be placed on the sea itself, besides the 40 meters wide area with road, park, and walkway.

- The goal is to organize public content, a kind of seaside city that will live throughout the year. And yes, the Port Authority will be the only investor in this project, which will extend to a total of 900,000 square meters - said the director of the Port Authority, Domagoj Maroevic.

One of the basic preconditions is the depth of the sea, and in this move, it is between six to eight meters, even 500 meters away from the coast, which makes this investment much more realistic. The content on the sea will go somewhere to this border.

- We had our thoughts on how it should look like, however, we decided on public international urban and architectural competition in which we will invest about one million kunas (133.000 euros). We estimated that it is possible to achieve more ambitious architecture here, especially for future aquarium and sailing park - said Maroevic.

In the next phase, when the government and ministries confirm the establishment of a new port area, it is expected to define the project task as well as the contents that will be located here. This includes beaches, and possibly scientific and cultural centers, a place for various collections and museums of maritime topics...

Basically, architects who apply for the competition will have a great opportunity to present his creation, and then there are various analysis and environmental impact studies that have to be completed, as well as amendments to spatial plans.
