The Croatian Ministry of Construction confirmed that it is preparing several hundred million kunas for the project of energy renewal of family houses. It will finance up to 50 percent of the reconstruction, and it is possible that within the project, several thousands of family houses will be restored.

Croats would like to go to Serbia: They are moving out of "their beautiful" country and they are coming here, searching for a better tomorrow

A house with a new facade cost around 50.000 kunas (6.700 euros) to Nevenka Glavica. 30.000 was donated by the state, three years ago, when the funds were given for the energy renewal of the houses.

- We are very pleased. We saved a lot, almost 50 percent during the winter, and it is a lot cooler during the summer. We don't need air conditioning, we just close the door - Glavica said.

A new round of distributing funds for energy renewal is starting next year, and the Ministry of Construction will provide 200 million Kunas (27 million euros) from European funds.

- Old buildings are mostly energy-inefficient. When you restore the facade, the apartment consumes less energy and the price of the apartment automatically rises - explained Boro Vujovic from the HGK Real Estate Agency.

There will be enough money from autumn to restore kindergartens, schools, and all other public facilities. Applications are starting on September 4th, and the budget will be increased due to the high demand. Instead of 380 million, the budget will be increased to 1.11 billion kunas.

But the question remains who will perform the construction works since the work market lacks facade and other construction workers.

- There are no construction operations and the big question is how will this be done, taking in consideration the lack of people in the construction industry - said Vujovic.
