It is known that there are dozens of cities that share the name with our Capital, there are few in Serbia that share its name, but what is most interesting is that there is Belgrade in space!

SENSATIONAL DISCOVERY: You will be shocked whose blood runs through the veins of a real Serb!

If we look back and look at the historical data, we will find one interesting fact. 79 years ago, more precisely on March 20, an asteroid was discovered named 1517 Belgrade.

1517, his diameter is 36.16 km and it is 400 km away from Sun. It was discovered by famous Serbian astronomer Milorad B. Protic, and it got its name by his birth city.

Milorad B. Protic was a part of science crew from Astronomical Observatory on Zvezdara. He discovered the greatest number of asteroids, even 33 in the period from '36 to '56 and he found seven smaller planets.

Protic loved his country and his city, so he named one asteroid Serbia, one Belgrade, and one planet he found in 1952, he named 2244 Tesla.

But, that's not the end. Belgrade doesn't exist only as capital of Serbia and in space - there is Little Belgrade in Novi Sad

It is a suburb in the East-North part of the city. And according to city data, this suburb is a part of local community Vidovdansko naselje.

Historically up to the thirties of the 20th century in this area are, with a few farms, there was a group of locals (the oldest district and part of Novi Sad), who stored piles of straw and haystacks for livestock in this area.

After the first world war, administration awarded land to volunteers to build family homes. First residents called this part of the city Little Belgrade to make it a role model to others.

According to available data, Little Belgrade got urban plan in 1994. and this part of the city legally got water, sewage and gas.
