Prices of consumer goods, services 0.9 pct down

The prices of goods and services used for personal consumption dropped 0.9 percent on average in July when compared to their levels in June, the national stats office said in a release on Wednesday

According to the consumer price index, which measures average changes in retail prices of goods and services used for personal consumption, consumer prices registered a year-on-year rise of 1.0 percent, and an increase of 1.1 percent if compared to the level in December 2014.

If we break the data down into main groups of products and services according to the purpose of consumption, July saw a drop in prices when compared to the previous month in the following groups: food and non-alcoholic beverages (-3.7 percent), clothing and footwear (-1.1 percent), housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (-0.4 percent), health (-0.3 percent) and restaurants and hotels (-0.2 percent).

An increase in prices was noted in the groups: recreation and culture (4.3 percent), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (2.2 percent), furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance (0.4 percent) and in the groups of transport and communication (by 0.2 percent each group).
