US Ambassador Christopher Hill said today on the occasion of Ukraine's Independence Day and six months since the Russian attack on that country, that he hopes that the war will bring Serbia closer to Europe but also the US, just as it "brought the EU and the US closer."

In a written statement, the ambassador stressed that what Serbia should do regarding its relations with Ukraine and how its citizens will react, still depends on Serbia.

"Ukraine has the support of the whole world, especially the US. What Serbia should do and how the citizens of Serbia will react, of course, still depends on Serbia. Just as this war brought the EU and the US closer together, I hope that it will bring Serbia closer to Europe, but also to the United States," stressed Hill.

The ambassador said that we cannot allow this kind of aggression to persist in the world, to the point where a neighbor can attack a neighbor.

By siding with Ukraine against Russia at this time, it puts us all on the right side of history, because Ukraine will surely triumph, said he.

"Six months have passed since the world faced the knowledge that one country, Russia, attacked its neighbor. It turned out to be one of the most brutal wars of this century. The Ukrainian people responded with great faith, and did not allow Russia to occupy their land. Their bravery speaks in favor of the fact that people fight harder and more successfully for something that is theirs than when they fight for something that they are taking away," said Hill.
