The earth opened and swallowed lamb and sheep: Abyss in Nova Varos frightened villagers

Nobody remembers anything like it in Bistricka Gobata. Ground suddenly opened on the hill and swallowed a sheep and a lamb, and the local residents can only guess what is the cause.

Chasm that appeared on the property of Milan Glavonjic around 10 days ago is around 4 meters deep and 2 meters wide.

- I went on the same road like every day and morning and led the sheep to the pasture. Suddenly, a sheep and a lamb disappeared round 30 meters in front of me, as if the earth has swallowed them. When i approached and saw the abyss that has opened, i couldn't believe my eyes. The hole couldn't be seen because of the tall grass so its lucky no one fell in it - said the local resident Milosav Mladjenovic.

Luckily, the sheep and the lamb survived the fall to the hole, but their rescue wasn't easy at all.

- Only the neighbor Dajan Glavonjic dared to climb down the ladders and to bring out the sheep and the lamb from the abyss - said Mladjenovic.

Twenty meters lower from the "abyss" there is a spring that locals started using a long time ago and they installed the water to their homes. They presume that the massive rains could be the cause of this unusual phenomenon.

- Few days ago at the bottom of the abyss there was a lot of water but its gone now, and we don't know where all the earth went. I have been using the property for years where the earth opened, but i never noticed anything unusual - said the local Dragisa Glavonjic.
