First speech of Aleksandar Vucic as a president: We told the truth and started to change it, both it and ourselves!

By taking an oath in a solemn ceremony in the Parliament of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic became the new president of Serbia.

Immediately after the oath, Vucic thanked everyone and addressed the public.

- Today, as I stand before you, before Serbia, all its citizens, not far from the place where in the distant 1830. Milos the great first edict declared independence and established a modern Serbia, it is more clear to me than ever, as much as i prepared, and i did, my entire political life, i can't find enough words to summarize, to explain, both fear and hope, that i am feeling by taking upon me this sacred duty and obligation", said Vucic at the beginning of his first presidential speech.

And i know, as much as every man in this country, that i need many deeds, more than worlds, and that the final word, and judgment will be said, not today, but the day i leave this function, when i am finished with this most honorable duty - said the newly elected president.

He then thanked the previous presidents of the Republic who gave their contribution to the progress and the prosperity of Serbia. And he especially gave contribution to the previous president Nikolic "for having courage to endure the hardest, but the only expedient measures the government took to recover Serbia".

- I learned to take the program in front of this high home for the work of government, extensive and comprehensive, and today, as tradition of this event, i will say few pointers, few principles, and legality i will stick to during my mandate, and i will try to change myself during that time, and Serbia, and to encourage every citizen, to become better, stronger, richer and happier country, and all of us more pleased and accomplished people - said Vucic.

- Today, just like three years ago, when i became the Prime Minister of Serbia, i have no doubts what do to next, for Serbia, for citizens, for the future we need to conquer, i have to give my all, and i will get absolutely nothing, besides the judgment of what i did, and it will remain in history.

It may look little to someone, since history doesn't predict sanctions, but, for me, that judgment is equal to the terrible, final, and presents greatest warning and the best instruction for everything i have in front of me, that i must and i want to do it. Because that is the greatest test i must do. In front of your children, and the children of their children. Everything else is daily policy, and starting from today, i have no rights to it. Not at least i had till yesterday - said Vucic.

Newly elected president once again said that he wants strong, stable and rich Serbia, but he can't reach to it alone.

- We need energy, strength, will and clear vision of that Serbia, in every citizen, in all people, who, giving this mandate to me, already decided to start a long and difficult journey - he mentioned.

Vucic said that we must recognize common goal and to invest joined effort and to take joined sacrifice.

- Split and divided Serbia can't go anywhere - said Vucic.

President several times pointed the freedom as one of the principles and he will stick to them, and he talked about the region.

- We told the truth, no matter no one wanted to hear it, and we started to change. To change ourselves, to change Serbia.

We admitted that we are no chosen people, that we are not the greatest nor the smartest, we don't live in the sky, but here, in our Serbia, and that we will have it right as we deserved it, with our work.

We stopped believing in death and war, we started believing in life and hard work. We stopped praying, to anyone, about our dead, but we started believing, in us, in Serbia. And on all that, on that change, we built a foundation of our own future, and the future of this country - Aleksandar Vucic said among other topics.

- Peace - permanent, stable, fruitful peace, in Serbia and in entire region... I will work on it, i will talk with anyone, i will offer solutions, i will insist on dialogue and compromise, because i deeply believe it is a foundation to every progress, every successful work, and safe future. So, peace and stability, for many just worn out words without any real and life meaning, they are and they will be the core of my future political engagement - said Vucic.

Speaking about Serbia, president said that it should be a pride for all of its citizens and that our country won't go into military alliances and pacts.

- We want to be us, on our own, to have well equipped and modern army, Serbian military, which can protect and save what is ours. We don't want other's, but we won't give our own. We will be strong, strong enough to do it. Politics of military neutrality will be the only policy i will protect, but also cooperation with someone whose part we don't want to be in, but we have the obligation to build different and better relations. Also, i believe that the entire region is a system of connected vessels, and fates, and that Serbia can't be well if anyone around us is not good as well - said Vucic speaking about the situation in the region.
