Russia increases its influence in Serbia so they don't allow the process of European integration, considers the head of the European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs, David McAllister. He said that Moscow exert influence on the Balkan countries.

Perhaps many Serbian citizens love Russia, but the strategic goal is EU membership

Russia carries out the policy of destabilization in Serbia in order not to allow the Balkan countries into European Union, said in the interview for German "Welt", chief of European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs David McAllister.

- Russia deliberately destabilizes Serbia. This is of great concern - said the politician.

He claims that Moscow is trying to have great influence on media, a number of politicians and civilian society of the republic. McAllister said that Serbia considers Russia one of its main supporters.

The paper stresses that even the high representative of EU for foreign affairs and safety Federica Mogherini felt the friendly environment in Serbia towards Russia. During her visit to the parliament in Belgrade, she was present while opposition members in the Parliament shouted "Serbia - Russia! We don't need European Union".

"Welt" writes that besides Russia, Turkey is also trying to expand their influence on Balkans, as well as China, Saudi Arabia and Qatar

The paper reminds that Russia and Serbia concluded an agreement in May 2014 about "strategic partnership". Both sides decided to support one another in exchange for information and carrying out joint military exercises.
