A frivolous move or desire to prove himself, a Macedonian mountaineer N.I. (26), who alone, without the knowledge of other members of the mountain group "I love hiking" from Skopje, tried to climb to the top of the mountain of gods - Olympus in Greece, could cost him his life.

A group of about fifty mountaineers from Macedonia and Serbia managed to climb to the highest peak of Olympus, Mitikas, to 2,918 meters at the end last week, the second highest in the Balkans.

A rescue operation of the special units of the Greek fire service lasted the entire night, until early hours on June 26., and a brave mountaineer from Serbia, Bojan Balaz, a member of the Serbian Mountain Rescue Service and a member of the Mountaineering Sports Club Balkan from Belgrade, took part in the rescue of the Macedonian mountaineer.

The action eventually ended successfully, and the Macedonian was saved. The Greek media reported that the young man had no ropes and other appropriate equipment, that he was lost and stuck at one point on a wall at 2,911 meters high, from where he could not even go any further, nor return back.

The Greek fire service received a call for help on June 25 at 22.35, and at the same time they sent 18 members of the Special Forces of Thessaloniki, Larisa, Katerini and Litohoro to rescue.

After information from the Greek media, the hiking club "I love hiking" from Skopje also responded.

- One of the members of company, N.I. separated from the group that rested in the Home and without the knowledge of the guide, on his own hand, headed for the nearby top of Stefani (2,909 meters above sea level). He intended to climb the steep and inaccessible part of Stefani without any necessary equipment, and he did not inform anyone from the group about his decision. Because of this move, he remained stuck on a wall, but luckily he was noticed by the guests in the Mountain Home, after which the group leaders were alarmed and an action to rescue him was organized.

- Many rescuers from Macedonia, Greece and Serbia participated in rescue operation that lasted many hours, and we express great gratitude to all of them on this occasion. N.I. was returned home uninjured and he is in good condition, they said from the mountaineering club "I love hiking" from Skopje. An experienced alpinist, Bojan Balaz, a member of the Serbian Mountain Rescue Service and a member of the Mountaineering Sports Club Balkan from Belgrade, also participated in rescue of Macedonian mountaineer N.I.

Zana Rankovic was a witness of his courage, who tried to conquer the tallest peaks of Olympus with the group of mountaineers from Belgrade.

- I want to mention a member of our group - Bojan, a member of the Serbian Mountain rescue service. Without a shred of hesitation he went and tried for several hours, in the night conditions, to climb the vertical unmarked stone wall in order to save a 26-year-old boy from another group of one of the neighboring countries, who was in life danger because of his too much adventurous spirit . Bravo, Bojan! To bring your own life into danger on self-initiative, in order to save human life is increasingly rare. He deserves at least a public praise from the Mountaineering Association of Serbia - wrote Zana Rankovic on her Facebook page.
