The famous, but now the traditional Sarmijada (cabbage rolls festival) in Backa Topola, was held for the fourth time. Sarmijada became international from the last year.

The smell of cabbage rolls, a favorite food of our kitchen, spread this weekend along farms of Brindza near Backa Topola. There was a large kitchen for 50 team that competed in the culinary prestige.

The competition was organized into three categories: classic "sarma" prepared in cabbage. Unusual "sarma" wrapped in vine leaves, spinach or something else of their choice, and meatless or vegetarian "sarma".

The task was to make it more delicious cabbage rolls to satisfy the tastes of the jury, and then the visitors who had the opportunity to taste it.

Since ancient times the cabbage rolls were prepared in winter, when sauerkraut  arrives when most of the Serbian holidays are celebrated.

Its indispensable ingredients are minced meat, rice, spices, salt, pepper and optionally even some more spices. When all is combined, it is wrapped in cabbage leaves, then aligned in the pot and with a few pieces of smoked meat or bacon and when everything is cooked together- we get the famous Serbian "sarma".

And when boiled cabbage is served to the majority of people it is a solemn moment - "to lick your fingers." It is therefore a main dish at all celebrations and Saint days holidays.
