They are members of the Volunteer Fire Department in Nis, thanks to the victory of their team in the national championship, they were given the opportunity to participate in the Firefighters Olympics. Miljana Stojiljkovic says that she began to compete on the city's firefighting competitions with her colleagues four years ago, and to record their first wins.

- Fire protection was a subject in college, but there was more in it for me. Fire extinguishing fascinated me, because that is humane job and people lives and property depend on it.

- I wanted for it to be my profession, especially there are no women in Nis in that line of work. A membership in the Volunteer fire department is a step toward that ambition - said Miljana.

Speed in preparation for operations brought them victory on the competitions, more precisely installation of equipment for the start of extinguishing time they recorded was less than a minute. But their involvement in the volunteer fire department was not only reduced to this. On the contrary, they are involved side by side with professional firefighters in extinguishing the fires.

- We get involved with fire extinguishing in open space, on fields, villages, because they demand more people and spread operation. In those situation the most important is discipline, we listen what are professional colleagues telling us and we follow their instruction in order not to bring ourselves and others into danger - explains Miljana.

Ana Stojadinovic admits that she had special reasons she became a firefighter.

- I am married to a professional firefighter and i wanted to do that job. I was motivated by the desire to help those who are in trouble, but also the intention to show that women can also do that job. I have the support of my husband, and having a small child is not an obstacle for my work - said young girl from Nis.

These girls easily cope with the attention they cause when they appear in firefighting uniforms.

- We are accustomed to it, we laugh, especially when men say something. When they see us wearing T-shirts with the inscription "fireman" they say to us: "Extinguish me" - said the firefighter women through laughter.

They are preparing for the upcoming Olympiad, and as it goes in Serbia, money is the problem.

- The most important thing is to secure the money for registration fee, which is around 205 euros for each of us. Then we need Then we need suits, shoes, shirts, ceremonial and work uniforms. We have promises that we will receive donations from the local government and from some companies, but the money is needed before we go. That's why we appeal to everyone who can help us go to the Olympiad to do so - said Branka Radenkovic.
