"Writing strong female characters is hugely important to me. My characters are meant to represent a romanticised version of Everywoman, with real flaws, real problems, real baggage, just like we all have"

Book lovers around the world enjoy good, quality and exciting stories. The female part of the population especially likes love novels with strong emotions the writer shows through their characters. Some books are partly based on true events and the emotions have a stronger meaning. The writer that is a real master of writing novels like this is Jasinda Wilder.

She is giving a part of herself to readers through every book, and the strong emotions readers find are an unforgettable experience for anyone who has met with some of her work at least once. No wonder that these novels in her home country are real bestsellers.

This American writer was born in Michigan, and she is trying to illustrate the fate of strong women through her books who are able to deal with all the things that life brings to them without any delay and fear.

Jasinda spoke openly about her work for Telegraf.rs, about emotions that move her, romance but also what is a true recipe for success according to her.

  • Where do you find inspiration for your novels and are some of them inspired by true events?

I find inspiration everywhere! Plot elements from a movie or TV show can inspire a whole new story or news articles, or something in my social media feeds, or just something created in my own mind—and yes, many of my stories have been inspired by true events.

  • The themes of your romance stories are always love, family, friendship, stories where leading heroes get to know themselves and find happiness at the end. Do you see your books as modern fairy tales, because the leading heroes go through all hardships to be happy at the end?

Yes! I’ve always intended my stories to be modern-day fairy tales, in a certain respect. Modern day, in that the characters always go through hardships true to real life, but fairy tales in that there is a happily ever after at the end.

  • How would you describe love in your own words and what's the craziest thing you've ever done for love?

If I could easily define love in a few words, I wouldn’t have written hundreds of thousands of words of storytelling trying to show what I believe it is. If you’ve read my books, then THAT is what love is to me. The craziest thing I’ve ever done for love? Have six children! LOL!

  • Do we as a society miss romance nowadays? Many ladies complain that men don't know how to seduce them.

I would agree to that, yes. I wonder if men have ever truly known how to romance, woo, and seduce women—but our society is, as a whole, lazier.

  • In your novels, you present the audience a very strong and descriptive sex scene. How much is that important in your writing and do you find it as one of your stronger sides in your work?

Hmmm. There is a balance to that, to sex in fiction, and that balance is something I am always trying to be better at achieving. Sex is a part of romantic love, so it is important to the stories, and I would say that I have a talent for it, yes.

  • Your female characters are strong women, with a few problems from the past, but they believe they can find happiness one day. They are also very independent and female readers can relate to them. How much is that pattern important in your writing? Is feminism important part of your writing, too?

Writing strong female characters is hugely important to me. My characters are meant to represent a romanticised version of Everywoman, with real flaws, real problems, real baggage, just like we all have. Feminism as a term has been twisted a lot lately, so I’m careful of allowing myself to be labeled as anything.

But—I believe in women, I believe in equality and equity. I also believe in the necessity of our society for strong, confident men. Take from that what you will.

  • Is the blend of a good love story, real problems, and sex, a real recipe for success because it keeps the reader's attention from beginning till the end? Or you can see yourself in another genre?

I don’t know that there is anyone specific recipe that will work for everyone all the time, but yes, a strong connection between hero and heroine with flaws and hangups,  a major obstacle, and a bit of hotness…that’s a recipe for romance and good story since time out of mind. I write romance because I’m good at it and I love it, but I have plans to try my hand at other genres, and I already have.

  • What kind of message do you want to send to your readers with your emotional books and stories?

That love is worth it, and to encourage people to believe in the redemptive power of love.

  • Have you always wanted to become a writer? Have you always believed in yourself or there was the time that you were thinking of giving up your writing? How does your writing process look like?

I’ve always wanted to be a writer, but every artist doubts themselves at some point and wants to give up at some point. For me, writing is a process of developing an idea for a story, creating the characters, loosely outlining the book, and then writing.

  • Do you enjoy your popularity, what do you think about your readers and how do they react to your books? What kind of book should we expect next from you?

I love that there are people who love my books, and I love my readers. Reactions are mixed—you can please some of the people all the time, all of the people some of the time, but never all the people all the time. I have several interesting projects I’m working on and developing, but I’m not quite ready to share too much about them yet. But expect a lot of fun and exciting books from me this year.

  • How do you spend your free time to recharge your energy for future work?

Free time? LOL. I have six children and a large farm with over 150 farm animals. I have no free time. Spending time with my family is how I recharge.

  • You are very popular in Serbia. Do you plan to come to our country and to hang out with your readers? What kind of message do you have for them?
